Best Suggestions For Caring For Caregivers

Caring for Caregivers

Caregivers are people who care for someone other than themselves. Caring for the sick or disabled, whether it be for an adult or child, is a full time job.

It is important for caregivers to take care of themselves in order to take care of others.

There are state and community based services that offer support to the caregiver.

Seek these out in your state or community for help.  There is information on www.us.gov that you will find helpful.

Depression, anxiety, and stress are issues that can overtake the caregiver.  There is support to keep this at a minimum so that the caregiver can provide care for a longer period of time and so that the need for costly institution care can be avoided or delayed.

These are some of the best suggestions to help caregivers take care of themselves.

These suggestions are meant to help relieve stress and anxiety so that the caregiver can benefit from restful sleep:

  • Start the day with prayer and a scripture reading.  Talking to the Lord is strengthening and up-lifting. Cast your cares on Jesus.  Claim Healing in His Name.
  • Prayer for Healing:

Heavenly Father, You are Majesty, You are Sovereign, You are Creator of all. Thank You for Your Grace and Your   Mercy.  Because Jesus Christ died on the Cross for our sins, and was Resurrected, I believe we are already healed from sickness and suffering. By His Stripes we are healed.  We only need to claim this healing. In the name of Jesus Christ, I claim healing for my loved one. I believe it and I receive it for him (her). Thank you, Lord.  Amen

Pray this prayer for your loved one, or have your loved one pray for himself or herself.

  • Relax when you can - Have something to do to occupy your relaxation time, such as, reading, using a computer, or working a puzzle, or just rest your mind.
  • Take care of your body.  Do stretching and strengthening exercises.  Some can be done in a sitting position.
  • Do mental exercises or crossword puzzles.

Take a walk daily, if possible. Get someone to relieve you for that period of time.

  • “Musick has charm to soothe the savage beast.”  (A quote by  William Congreve,    from the Mourning Bride, 1697)

Let this quote inspire you to listen to your favorite music while relaxing.  Your loved one may find listening to music can have a soothing effect. Classical or inspirational music would be a good choice, or whatever you prefer.

    •  Do not hesitate to ask for help when you need it.   Acknowledge your feelings.  Face feelings of anger, sadness, guilt, loneliness, whatever you are feeling. Talk to someone to whom you can express these feelings. Talk to a pastor, a counselor, or join a support group.  These are people who probably are not judgmental, and will be willing to listen.  After all, they probably have similar challenges and are looking for support themselves and a listening ear for their issues.

RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS

Random Acts of Kindness and Ways to Show You care

Random Acts of Kindness and Other Ways to Show You Care.

Smile, say hello, give a hug, offer help

Assist someone in the grocery store:
Sometimes we might see a person that is disabled or for some reason has to use a motorized chair to do shopping.  Many times it is hard or impossible for this person to reach items on upper shelves. Getting these items for them is huge. Not only is this helpful, but it is appreciated.

Help an elderly person get onto the bus.  Being patient while this person finds and pays for bus fare.

Send a card to someone who is going through a difficult time. This may be a time of dealing with the loss of a loved one or friend.  This time may be a time of dealing with a health diagnosis.  Receiving a card can be uplifting and encouraging to most.

Offer to pick up items at the pharmacist or store to someone who cannot do this themselves.

Cut the grass for a neighbor or someone who does not have a lawn mower.  Shovel snow for the elderly.

Give a hug and ask how are you.

Say Please and Thank you.

Hold the door and let another person go through the door before you

Listen without interrupting.  Sometimes, a person only wants someone to listen to them.

Spend time with the lonely and people who live alone.

Call to say hello let them know you are thinking of them

Help a person at the check out who is in a motorized chair and may be having difficulty in using the device to pay.

Smile and be courteous.

Offer your seat in a waiting room or on the bus

Pick up some trash to help keep things clean

Pay for a person parking in a hospital parking lot or deck.  Sometimes, people are short on coins or dollars to pay for parking, and their presence at the hospital to see about a loved one is necessary

Say a prayer

Give away items that you are not using or no longer want
Others may be able to use them

Send a care package to the military, any branch, or to someone in particular

Visit the sick

Visit the nursing home

Volunteer to the Red Cross, hospitals, nursing homes, places that need help in helping people

Donate to the Children’s Home
Volunteer at the Children’s Home

Donate to the food bank

If you garden, plant and donate a portion of your yield to someone or to the food bank

If you are a professional, volunteer your services to the disenfranchised or an organization that helps people to exercise their rights under the law. Volunteering your services can help people who otherwise would not get help. Having a place to live and having food are issues that are paramount.

How To Enjoy the Blessed Life

Prune, Trim, and Cut to Enjoy the Blessed Life

Prune, Trim, Cut, But Pray First

Time to care for the vegetation that is rearing its head and shaking off winter’s effects.

The dormant plants are now awakening.  They will receive Spring’s anointing of earthly nutrients, sunshine, and rain.  Plants will spring up and raise their heads to the sky ready to receive the benefits of the emerging season.

The flowers will open their buds,  The buds will drink in the water and sunshine according to their needs.  This can be an awakening for you.  Embrace Spring’s effects so that you can feel renewed.  Look to the sky for renewed inspiration to enjoy life.  Look forward, not backward.

Each day is a new day.  The sun can help you feel inspired to prune, trim and cut not only the vegetation, but the things that you want to leave behind.  Things that have kept you bogged down over the winter can now be shrugged off.  Put on a new garment of hope with faith that you can, and will, proceed and succeed in your endeavors.  This is a new awakening.  Trim the straggling thoughts of despair, prune the feelings of doubt, cut away the negative thoughts.

Go outside, feel the fresh air of spring, inhale deeply the smell of flora and  woody perennials as they eagerly burst forth.  They are not reticent or shy about coming out. Don’t you be shy about taking a step forward.  You are alive, just as the flowers and trees are alive.  Go forth.  Prune, trim, and cut so that you can enjoy the blessed life.

Be hopeful,

Kitchens are bigger now, and people spend a lot of time there with family and friends. The kitchen is the new family room.

Sometimes we need a change in our everyday living.  That change might be in our home decor. Finding  tips on how to clean and decorate is a treasure.  These are good things.  Where to find what we need to do these things is the question.

Cleaning products can be found in hardware and grocery  stores.  Items to decorate your home are not so easily located.  There are stores that stock items that appeal to the mass population, but not to a specific market.

Therefore, after you decide what it is you want or need for your decor, whether for kitchen, home interior, or office, your must find a place(s) where the items are sold.  The shops that carry Giclee art prints are art galleries, print shops and department stores that have a home store section.  Online art galleries are becoming more popular via the worldwide web.  Giclee art prints are affordable, and they are printed on archival paper, therefore they last indefinitely.

Think about it.  Hang kitchen theme art in your kitchen as an upgrade, or renewal.

You will find art prints and more for home, apparel and tech at the website below.

Be Creative, Express Yourself

Be Creative, Express Yourself

Viewing a work of art or a drawing or painting created by yourself or a loved one can uplift you.  Painting or drawing in itself can be invigorating to the spirit.  Express your creativity by creating art or by putting to pen and paper a thought.

We  have a tremendous amount of creativity in each and every one of us, we just have to find it.  It lies dormant until we tap into it and once that happens, there is a gush that is unstoppable.  That creativity must be put into motion through writing, composing, visual art, music or expression through poetry.

Creativity is the muse that calls us to express our inner thoughts and feelings.  There are ideas within each person that longs to be set free through expression.  Those ideas are kicking at the door of your very being to get out and to be set free.

For instance, take the old masters.  Van Gogh’s inner self probably pressured and pressured him until he could no longer ignore the urgings to release the creativity within him.  According to historical writings this man could not help but to create, he was driven.

Monet, an impressionist painter expressed his creativity by painting the landscape on his property and the scenery around him.  These are two artists who tried to satisfy their muse.

The point is, express yourself in whatever way you choose.  Just do it.  We all have something to say, whether it is audible or visual.  We are all creative beings.

Express yourself.

TRY CHRIST! Help Is Here

Help is Here. Try Christ!

When you need help, and we all need help at one time or another, try Christ.
There is no greater helper than Jesus Christ.
Whatever the issue, whatever the problem, try Christ. There is no better helper.

Tell him what is on your heart. He already knows, but He wants you to come to Him and seek His help.  He promised to never leave you or forsake you.  He will be with you until the end of the age.  You can depend on His promises. He loves you.  He died on the cross for you.  His resurrection triumphed over death and hell so that you could have a new

relationship with God through Him and have eternal life.

Fret not!  Help is here. If you have not received Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, do it now.  Do not wait.  It is as simple as confessing this:

I confess with my mouth and believe in my heart that Jesus died on the cross for my sins.  He was buried and rose from the grave, He ascended to Heaven and is seated on the right hand of God, the Father.  Lord Jesus Christ, I receive You into my heart as my Lord and Savior.  I thank you to forgive my sins.  Proclaim that Jesus Christ is Lord!

After this confession you have become born again and you are a new creation in Christ.

Reference:
Romans 10:9-10  Confess and believe in your heart
Ephesians  2:8       Saved by Grace through Faith, a gift    of God                          2 Corinthians 5:17 A new creation in Christ

 SO, ARE YOU READY YET?

Exercise and Stretch

You will feel better!

Have you worked on the list of goals that you laid out for yourself ?

We all have things that we would like to work on to improve ourselves or our lot in life.  Sometimes that can be hard to do.  Therefore, a plan of action is necessary.  For starters, identify those things that really need attention.  Make a list and prioritize according to the most needy.
Next, decide how to go about making a change.  Is this going to cost much or anything at all?  Do I have the mental or physical energy to begin the process?

If you need to summon the energy to get started, do stretching exercises.
Stretching exercises awakens the mind and the body, as well as allows the muscles to stretch out.  This helps prevent injury when moving the body during simple movement such as walking, bending or flexing.  Stretching also, gets blood flowing to the brain, then circulating throughout the body.

All activity starts in the mind.  If blood is flowing to the brain then, the mind is equipped to do its work, that is, to transmit messages to the body to do its work. The work or task is to develop a plan of action that effects your life to your satisfaction.

Exercise benefits the mind and the body.  Moderate exercise can make you feel refreshed and invigorated.

Stretching is a good way to start exercising. Stretching the muscles help prevent cramping when you move around.  You feel invigorated after stretching. You can stretch anytime anywhere.  This is just a suggested Simple stretch:

Stretch your arms above your head like you are reaching for the sky.  Really reach. Hold that position for a count of 10.

Stretch your arms out on both sides.  Hold for a count of 10.

Next, bend your knees slightly as you bend over to touch your toes.  If you cannot that is fine.  Your leg muscles have not stretched out enough for you to reach your toes, they will.  Hold this for count of 10.  Then slowly straighten up to a standing position.  This is a basic stretch that may get your body awake and the muscles ready for movement.  That invigorating feeling can now be circulated to the mind.  You can now begin to make a plan to work on the things you want to improve or change.  If you are not yet ready for this step, stretch.

Hope this was helpful,
